Jett Lawrence has silenced doubters who believed his perfect Pro Motocross season was a fluke by winning his first AMA Supercross 450 championship in Salt Lake City.
The Australian’s first season in the premier 450SX class was far from easy, with no less than four former champions in Cooper Webb, Chase Sexton, Eli Tomac, and Jason Anderson challenging him across 17 rounds of racing.
Add brother Hunter Lawrence, Justin Cooper, German superstar Ken Roczen, Justin Barcia, Aaron Plessinger, Malcom Stewart, and Dylan Ferrandis into the mix, and Lawrence had a stacked field to overcome.
Lawrence arrived at Salt Lake City with a 20-point advantage over Sexton, and he cruised home to a safe seventh place to claim the title. Sexton took the last win of the season, with Cooper and Webb rounding out the podium.
For his efforts in 2024, Lawrence was also awarded the Rookie of the Year title.
Since his first AMA Pro Motocross title in 2021, Lawrence has not lost a championship that he has entered. His total is now six (seven if you count his SuperMotocross title).
The impressive trophy cabinet has encouraged talk about the possibility of the young Australian chasing down Ricky Carmichael and Jeremy McGrath’s various records for race wins and championships.
Only one other Australian has won the AMA Supercross premier class title, and that was Chad Reed in 2004 (when 250s were the premier class) and 2008.
