Carmichael and Anderson locked in for 2017 AUS-X Open

The greatest of all time is heading back Down Under, while Reed will be looking settle the score in front of his home crowd

The greatest dirt bike racer of all time, Ricky Carmichael, and his American compatriot Jason Anderson, are the latest high profile signings for the 2017 AUS-X Open inside the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on November 11-12.

Carmichael, who won an astonishing 12 championships in the premier 450cc class across his hall-of-fame career, will return to Australia for the first time since 2015 when he was the undisputed crowd favourite at the inaugural AUS-X Open.

“I’m beyond excited to return down under for the AUS-X Open in 2017!” said Carmichael. “When I came down for the 2015 event, I didn’t quite know what to expect initially, however during and after the event I was absolutely blown away by how much fun it was – plus how professional the event was carried out.

"Returning in 2017 was a very easy decision – I love Australia, the fans are amazing, plus with the addition of Chad (Reed) and Jason… you won’t want to miss this."

Meanwhile, 24-year-old Anderson, the winner of the 2017 AMA 450 SX finale in Las Vegas, will compete on his Husqvarna in Sydney.

The event will mark the first time Anderson will race Reed since their controversial coming together at Las Vegas finale earlier this month, when Reed finished sixth in the race Anderson went on to win.

After the season-ending race, the 35-year-old Yamaha rider’s reaction to Anderson’s aggressive move was “[I] can’t wait for the tight confines of the AUS-X Open.”

Anderson said he's also looking forward to lining up alongside the Aussie veteran in front of Reed’s home supporters.

“To race Chad in his home country will be awesome,” he said. “He’s a legend around the world and has had an amazing career. I have a huge amount of respect for him,” he said. “We get along really well off the track, but we’re both competitors, both want to win and will do anything to do so – even if it means a bit of aggressive riding.

"I actually won’t be racing him again until we line up in Sydney, so who knows what will happen – fans will definitely get their money’s worth!”
