Jarvis triumphs in Red Bull Romaniacs

English enduro ace Graham Jarvis has emerged victorious in the gruelling 2011 Red Bull Romaniacs rally

Briton Graham Jarvis recently claimed victory in the 2011 instalment of the Red Bull Romaniacs enduro, held in Sibiu, Romania, over July 16-20.

Jarvis, riding a Husaberg TE300, staved off some fierce competition from New Zealander Chris Birch to take the ulitmate prize in 20 hours and 14 seconds,

after five days and some 600km of riding the punishing Pro-class circuit. It was a second Romaniacs victory for Jarvis, who also triumphed in this testing

event in 2008.

The Romaniacs enduro sees competitors battle it out over the local mountainous terrain and a technically challenging course in Sibiu's town centre, the latter featuring a range of

man-made obstacles designed to push riders' skills to the limit. Some 176 riders contested the 2011 event, with 124 making it to the finish.

Speaking just after the win, Jarvis said the affair went down to the line. "It was another tough day and I had to keep pushing, because I knew that

Chris would never give up," he said. "And then I caught a wire in my rear wheel that sent me crashing, and I had to work quite hard to get that out of my

bike. But I'm happy to have won the Red Bull Romaniacs for the second time now. It's such a great race and I hope to be back next year," he added.

Birch, campaigning a KTM 300 EXC, said there was no shame in coming home second to Jarvis. "Coming second to Graham is okay in my book -- this guy is

incredible," he said. "And I love this race; if anyone out there is thinking about doing it, I can only encourage you - I've done all sorts of races around

the world and this is by far the best. Just make sure you pick the right class!" he added.

Rounding out the podium was Germany's Andreas Lettenbichler, riding a Husqvarna TE 310. Lettenbichler crashed hard twice on the final day, destroying his GPS

unit, but he followed some riders in the Hobby class and still managed to secure third. "I'm happy it's over, but it was a tough and fun race," he said. "I'm

going back to work tomorrow, but I have a ton of great memories and an awesome place on the podium to be happy about," he added.
