Husaberg pilot Graham Jarvis (pictured) has won the 2013 Hell’s Gate enduro in Italy, backing up victories in 2010 and 2011 to equal the record of fellow Briton, David Knight.
Snowstorms cleared just before the 10th running of the event – held on Saturday, February 16, – to give a window of clear weather, but that didn’t stop the rigors of the event itself from decimating a grid of 123 entrants. Just 30 are allowed through to the four-lap final and only five of them fell within the time limit imposed by the race-leading Jarvis by the event’s end.
Jarvis set a cracking pace to eventually stand atop the podium, with countryman Jonny Walker (KTM) some 12 minutes adrift – a superb effort given he was suffering from a gastric bug on the day. Rounding out the podium was America’s Cody Webb (Beta), while the final two finishers comprised Spain’s Alfredo Gomez (Husaberg) and Britain’s Ben Hemingway (Beta).
“It’s an incredible feeling to have won at Hell’s Gate for the third time,” said Jarvis. "I really wasn’t expecting it and because of the conditions I didn’t know how things would work out or how the other riders would do, but once I got into the lead everything went really well. It’s a great achievement to have three wins, but I hope I can add to that. I’ve really enjoyed the race this year and will be back next year,” he added.
