Battle-hardened extreme enduro competitors Graham Jarvis and Alfredo Gomez dominated the Wildwood Rock event in Victoria on Sunday, November 10, finishing one-two on their factory-backed Husabergs.
The British rider and his Spanish teammate were the only two riders to complete nine laps of the torturous circuit littered with man-made and natural obstacles, with Jarvis moving into the lead on lap seven. His final winning margin over Gomez was nearly six minutes, with Jarvis’s total elapsed time three-and-a-quarter-hours.
Australia’s Mitch Harper, who won the inaugural Wildwood Extreme in 2010, was third -- as well as making it a trifecta for Husaberg.
“My day started off a bit rough, I went to hop an obstacle in the first 300 metres of the prologue but I clipped the back tyre and got shot over the bars,” said Harper. “I broke my helmet and took a handlebar square in the ribs. I had some pain killers for the race but started about six waves back so I had to pass dozens of riders and never got to see Jarvis and Gomez.”
Husqvarna rider Matt Phillips, the recently crowned 2013 world junior enduro champion and 2013 Wildwood winner, only lasted four laps before retiring.
