Jared Mees wins Troy Bayliss Classic
Two in a row for the American star, who defeated Aussies Troy Herfoss and Michael KirknessThe 2017 Troy Bayliss Classic has been won by American Jared Mees, who defeated Australians Troy Herfoss and Michael Kirkness in the 21-lap final at Taree (NSW) on Saturday, January 21.
Herfoss and inaugural Troy Bayliss Cup winner Kirkness pressured the international throughout the race but were unable to find a way past.
“It was an awesome event,” Mees said. “We had a good crowd, fantastic racing and perfect weather.
“I want to thank Troy and Kim Bayliss for bringing me out. What they are doing to raise the profile of flat track racing in Australia is truly incredible.
“In the Troy Bayliss Cup I finally got the start I had been looking for all day, but I knew Troy (Herfoss) would be a big threat.
“Thankfully, I was able to hold on for the win and hopefully I will be back to defend my title."
For Herfoss, it was his third runner-up finish.
“A win in the Troy Bayliss Cup continues to elude me,” Herfoss said. “But this is a great event I really enjoy coming here and racing – it was awesome to see the calibre of riders across all classes.”
