Japanese bike production slides
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has released its latest production and export figures, and the numbers are heading southJapanese motorcycle production and exports fell both in the month of June 2013 and over the first six months of this year, according to latest data just released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association Inc (JAMA).
Some 36,214 motorcycles were produced in June compared with 41,984 in June 2012, the figure representing a drop of 13.7 per cent. Over the first half of 2013 some 263,670 motorcycles were produced – a drop of 17.1 per cent from figure of 317,974 produced through the corresponding period last year.
Within that six-month production figure it’s motorcycles in the 51cc to 125cc bracket that are being hit hardest, with production within that class dropping by 50.6 per cent. The under 50cc bracket fell by 31.4 per cent, followed by the 126cc to 250cc bracket (down 14.2 per cent) and the over 250cc bracket (down 10.5 per cent).
Motorcycle exports for the month of June were down by 26.8 per cent (25,831 units down from 35,306 in 2012), while for the first six months of the year they were down by 18.2 per cent (211,567 units, down from last year’s figure of 258,674 and representing a reversal of 2012’s upturn).
