The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) has provisionally suspended champion American supercross and motocross rider James Stewart after an ”adverse analytical finding” to amphetamine in a urine sample collected from him at an in-competition test during the Supercross World Championship in Seattle on April 12, 2014.
The positive report was received from a WADA-accredited laboratory in Cologne. Stewart now has the right to request and attend the analysis of his B sample.
A provisional suspension imposed by the FIM does not in any way prejudge the question as to whether an anti-doping rule violation under Article 2 of the FIM Anti-Doping Code has actually been committed. This question will be addressed by the FIM International Disciplinary Court (CDI) when it adjudicates on the merits of the case.
Stewart is provisionally suspended with immediate effect until further notice, which effectively means his 2014 AMA motocross campaign is over. Stewart's employer, Suzuki, is yet to make comment.
