Jack Miller looks set to sign with Ducati for the 2021 MotoGP season, with Pramac Racing Team Manager, Francesco Guidotti, admitting that a deal for Miller to join the factory squad is ‘close’.
Rumours have circulated about 25-year-old Miller replacing Danilo Petrucci on the Ducati factory team, and while Guidotti doesn’t believe anything has been signed, he does think both parties are keen for Miller to make the jump.
“The most logical and normal situation is that Jack will go to the factory team,” said Guidotti on motogp.com. “He started with us with the goal of riding for the factory team. After a difficult first year, I think last year he showed very good potential.
“We were waiting for this year to see more improvement, but at the moment there is no chance for him to show that. I think, and I think Ducati think as well, that he has the potential.”
The Australian rider turned down an offer to join KTM for 2020, and chose to remain with Pramac, the satellite Ducati team. The Bolonga manufacturer is keen to reward Miller’s loyalty to the brand by offering him a factory seat.
Hailing from Townsville, Miller joined Pramac in 2018 after making his MotoGP debut in 2015. Miller partnered with Petrucci in 2018, but the Italian rider moved to the factory team in 2019. Petrucci's departure meant Miller was able to utilise the Desmosedici GP19 bike for the 2019 season.
The Australian finished 8th overall in 2019, his best finish in the premier class.
