Takanobu Ito, CEO of Honda Motor Company, recently turned to his personal CB1100 when the going got tough.
In the wake of the devastating March 11 earthquake, where many highways and roads were severely damaged, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the 57-year-old ditched a car in preference to his personal CB1100 when he needed to get to Honda plants at Tochigi, about 100km north of Tokyo, as quickly as possible.
At Tochigi, a vehicle research centre, a manufacturing-technology development subsidiary and a component factory, a 43-year-old male employee died when the wall of a cafeteria crumbled, and 17 other employees were injured.
The pearl white CB1100 was able to roll through disrupted roads around the facilities that a car would find it hard to navigate.
“I saw quite a lot of roads closed right after the quake,” Mr. Ito said. “I drove around by my motorcycle from my home, and it worked,” Ito was quoted as saying.
Tochigi was reopened two weeks after the quake hit.
