Italian enforcer David Gozzini (TM) is the Australian S1 supermoto champion for the second year running, following a succesful title defence in Collie (WA).
But the world No. 2 – he fell just 3pts short of winning this year’s title – was pushed all the way by British rider Christian Iddon (Aprilia), as the two internationals put on a vintage display for the West Aussie spectators.
Although Gozzini won five of the six S1 races, his average winning margin of Iddon was just 0.406 seconds. Iddon’s sole victory came on Sunday, just 0.009 seconds in advance of Gozzini.
Gozzini finished on 147pts, ahead of Iddon (135) and local rider Liam Robertson (111).
TM made it two Aussie titles, with WA local Bret Stewart winning the S2 class.
Angus Reekie, who has domninated supermoto racing domestically for a number of years, didn’t compete in Collie, choosing instead to co-pilot a KTM RC8R in the Australian Endurance Championship at Philip Island. And he made a brilliant fist of his road racing debut, finishing seventh outright and winning the production class.
