Italian motorcycle journalist breaks endurance world record

A motorcycle journalist from Italy has completed his world record mission by riding his MV Agusta Turismo Veloce Lusso SCS through 11 different countries in less than 24 hours.

Valerio Boni travelled more than 2000km on the production Turismo Veloce Lusso SCS, setting the record for the most countries crossed in a 24-hour period.

The record-setting journey, dubbed Turismo Veloce Europe Endurance, began at 5:38pm on June 21 in the city of Malmö, Sweden. On what was the longest day of the year, Boni then travelled into Denmark and then south to Germany.

Following Germany, Boni rode through Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and Austria before ending the journey at the MV Agusta headquarters in Varese, Italy.

All up, Boni travelled 2003km in a little over 23 hours. The epic journey also resulted in another accolade – SaddleSore 2000 certification from the Iron Butt Association by riding 2000km in less than 24 hours.

While the journey was a success, it was not without its challenges. Boni was hit with rainfall, roadworks, stringent speed limits, and a blocked road in the Netherlands.

“Everything went according to plan, or almost,” said Boni. “We reached our obejective thanks to the Turismo Veloce, which proved to be extremely reliable and comfortable.”

The MV Agusta Turismo Veloce 800 Lusso SCS is an adventure-style motorcycle powered by a 798cc 3-cylinder engine that puts out 80Nm and 110hp. It has an Australian ride-away price of $39,990 and proved the perfect tool for Boni’s journey.

The 62-year-old journalist is no stranger to endurance motorcycle journeys. He has participated in African motorcycle rallies, and also recently broke the Guinness World Record for the longest distance on a minibike in 24 hours.
