Isle of Man TT fans take note - there's a new documentary on the legendary race that winds its way around the extensive 60km Mountain Course called TT3D: Closer to the Edge.
As the title suggests, the upcoming documentary will be presented in 3D, which will mean lurid wheelies and breath taking airborne moments are captured with eye-boggling realism.
The new doco will be special not only for motorcycle fans and lovers of the race, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2011, but also for film nuts, because TT3D: Closer to the Edge is the first feature-length sports documentary to be filmed in full 3D.
Judging by the trailer (see below), the production quality appears to be very impressive and this could become one of the must-see films for avid motorcyclists everywhere. It has an April 22 release date.
Directed by Richard De Aragues, the film will feature several interviews and sections with famous Isle of Man TT riders, such as Australia's own Cameron Donald, plus Guy Martin, Ian Hutchinson and John McGuinness.
No one really knows how the 3D aspect of the documentary will play out, whether the motorcycles will appear to be riding out of the screen in full 3D or whether the effect will be more subtle in order to draw the audience into the action sequences. Whatever the case, it's shaping up to be a very polished production.
Proper 3D cameras were used during the 2010 Isle of Man TT event to capture footage for the documentary which is being pitched beyond core motorcycling public, so expect plenty of drama and emotion.
TT3D: Closer to the Edge will be narrated by emo rock star/ film star Jared Leto and will be premiered on April 22 with a general release scheduled for May 2011.
