Moto Guzzi certainly incited some attention at this year's international motorcycle show in Milan with the unveiling of three concept models, all powered by the company's meaty transverse-mounted 1151cc V-twin.
Designed by former Ducati gurus Miguel Galluzzi (of Monster fame) and Pierre Terblanche (Hypermotard and 999), the V12 LM, V12 Strada and V12 X all have LED headlights, Brembo brakes, single-sided swingarms and Ohlins suspension.
But here's where it gets interesting. The LM uses cameras and LCD screens instead of mirrors, while the passenger footpegs are attached to the swingarm through a linkage system to provide a floating "suspended" appearance.
"There is an impalpable, yet very real force in the history of Moto Guzzi. It lies in the ideas and in the unrelenting research work that led Moto Guzzi to build its tradition on innovation," says Galluzi. "Mentioning all the accomplishments of Moto Guzzi and their significance in the history of the Italian motorcycling industry would seem like indulging in some kind of vain celebration.
"Throughout its history, Moto Guzzi has put forward a unique concept of motorcycle. Everything started with an idea, and new ideas have always been the lifeblood of the 'Italian eagle'."
The LM, named after the legend of Le Mans, is definitely the biggest stunner of the trio, with the Strada and X more touring and commuter orientated.
The Strada's seat is similar to the Aprilia Mana's (the Piaggio Group owns both companies), while the V12 X is described as a "one-of-a-kind" motorcycle with more of a sporting bent.
No word on if or when the concepts will go into production, but we're tipping 2011 could be a big year for Moto Guzzi.
