Intermot show: Yamaha 01 GEN concept

Complete with mean-looking pincers that look more in tune with a sci-fi movie

Here’s the Yamaha O1GEN concept three-wheeler which is making its debut at the 2014 Intermot motorcycle show in Cologne.

The company’s calling this one a crossover based on the bike’s ability to take on a variety of terrain -- both on and off-road -- “grounded in the manoeuvrability unique to the format”.

There are a number of distinctive features in the sharply styled bodywork, including the two crab-like pincers at the front end which look like they could tear apart and eat the owner if they developed a nasty streak. Yamaha isn’t quite so aggressive in its critique of the front end, calling the design an “expression evolving from the harmony of interweaving the mechanical framework with the flowing body line that makes the most of the volume of the double front wheels”.

Yamaha created a design philosophy called ‘Refined Dynamism’ in 2013, and the 01GEN is the first example of that. There’ll be more.
