With the imminent arrival of arch rival Brammo, Zero Motorcycles has taken the next step in the evolution of the chassis on its four-bike range of electric bikes, with Showa suspension, Bosch anti-lock brakes and Pirelli tyres to join the fray in 2015.
As well, range has also been extended by 10 per cent on the Zero S, Zero SR and Zero DS models with the introduction of new battery cells. When combined with the Power Tank accessory this yields a range of up to 296km in the city and 150km on the highway at 112km/h or 184km at 88km/h.
“For 2015 we have further redefined the motorcycle experience by creating a line-up that delivers, quite possibly, the most seamless and pure ride of any motorcycle ever manufactured,” said Richard Walker, CEO of Zero Motorcycles. “With no shifting, up to 106 ft-lbs (143Nm) of instant torque and a host of new technical improvements that offer premium comfort and control, we invite all consumers to go for a ride on these impressive new machines.”
Beyond improvements in suspension, brakes and batteries, the 2015 line-up features a host of new design elements, including revised cast alloy wheels on the Zero S, Zero SR and Zero DS which incorporate a carrier-less front rotor and hollow front axle to reduce unsprung weight. There are also new mirrors, an improved seat, softer grips and a more “robust throttle”.
The 2015 range will start going on sale internationally from December 2014, with Australian availability expected to be sometime in the first quarter of 2015.
