Indian Motorcycle has issued a recall on its Chieftain (Classic, Dark Horse, Elite and Limited), Roadmaster and Chief/Springfield/Chieftain (Limited) all built prior to January 8, 2018.
The affected bikes were on sale between October 1, 2017 and April 13, 2018.
What is the defect?
Some MY2018 111 motorcycles have been manufactured with a right-hand switch cube that does not meet quality standards. Affected switch cubes may develop corrosion within the stop/run/start circuit. If the motorcycle key fob is stored on or near the motorcycle and all other safety interlocks are met, an affected switch cube could lead to unintentional vehicle power-up or start sequence.
What is the hazard?
If the motorcycle is left running unattended in an enclosed environment, potentially hazardous levels of carbon monoxide may accumulate. Consumers may be at risk of serious injury or death from carbon monoxide poisoning.
What should consumers do?
Indian Motorcycle will write and notify all affected consumers of required action. Consumers should contact their Indian Motorcycle dealer to arrange for recall work to be performed.
