Incoming Aprilia Tuareg 660 revealed

The new Aprilia Tuareg 660 will revive a legendary name and target the red-hot middleweight adventure category

The red-hot middleweight adventure bike category has a new contender, with the official reveal of the new Aprilia Tuareg 660 over the weekend.

Marking the Italian firm’s return to the adventure motorcycle scene, the Aprilia Tuareg 660 is aimed directly at the likes of the Yamaha Tenere 700 and KTM 890 Adventure R.

Designed as an adventure tourer with significant off-road capability, the Tuareg 660 utilises the 660cc parallel-twin engine found in Aprilia’s RS 660 and Tuono 660. The engine has been re-tuned to suit adventure riding and produces 80hp and 70Nm with a boosted low/mid-range curve.

The new Tuareg 660 weighs in at 187kg dry and features off-road suspension with 240mm travel front and rear. The bike also has an 18-litre fuel tank.

In the electronic department, the Tuareg 660 uses Aprilia’s APRC system that features four ride modes (including an off-road mode), switchable ABS and traction control, cruise control and a 5-inch TFT display.

The Aprilia Tuareg was introduced in 1985, but it went through a variety of engine sizes and formats before its demise in 1994. The new adventure tourer will revive the Tuareg moniker, which refers to the Tuareg people of the Sahara desert.

Aprilia hasn’t provided any further information on availability, pricing, or release dates, so it’s unclear how long would-be customers will have to wait before getting their hands on the bike.
