Hypermotard 796 to start from $15,990

Common ground between manners and madness, says Ducati

Ducati's new "urban upstart", the Hypermotard 796, will go on sale in Australia next month for $15,990 in a choice of two matte colours, or $400 more for a gloss red version.

Released at this year's EICMA show in Milan, the Hypermotard 796 features an all-new 803cc Desmodue L-twin engine developing 81hp and 75.5Nm, with a dry weight of 167kg.

The new bike will be a smaller-capacity stablemate to the popular Hypermotard 1100, which is the third biggest selling supermoto bike in Australia this year behind the Yamaha XT660 and Suzuki DR-Z400SM.

"Whether you're doing the daily commute or attacking the open roads, the 796 will ride the common ground between manners and madness by mixing Ducati's unrivalled twin-cylinder power and sportsbike heredity with the lightweight and minimalist supermotard concept," said Warren Lee, the CEO of Aussie Ducati distributor NF Importers.

"This makes the 796 highly attractive to many riders, including those currently riding or considering the purchase of a mid to large capacity single-cylinder motard model, or even a mid-capacity naked."

The incorporated advances seen in Ducati's most recent superbike and Streetfighter models, including light weight 848-type flywheels, newly designed crankcases (which alone save 1.2kg), and a wet clutch with slipper-type action .

The Hypermotard 796 is available in two matte colour schemes: a white tank with black headlight fairing over black frame and wheels; or a black tank and headlight fairing over black frame and wheels.

A gloss red version, with red tank, headlight fairing and frame over black wheels, is available for $16,390.

Availability is still to be announced.
