Can maxi-scooters be sexy? That's the question that is being asked by Yamaha of the T-Max maxi scooter, and it's been answered in emphatic style by German customiser Marcus Walz.
Certainly not the ugliest of maxi scooters on the market, the 500cc Yamaha T-Max has been given a subtle and sporty work over that gives the scooter a more streamlined, sporty look.
The custom T-Max scooter is part of a challenge that was set in late 2011 for three of the world's most famous customisers - Marcus Walz, California-based Roland Sands and French 'creative genius' Ludovic Lazareth.
While Roland Sands and Ludovic Lazareth won't be revealing their creations until the Northen summer and autumn respectively, they've got their work cut out for them with the Walz' scooter.
Best known for creating low-slung, wild, angry-looking motorcycles, Walz has been featured on more than 60 magazine front covers but has taken to the T-Max with delicacy.
His initial outline was to increase performance and reduce weight, and ended up finishing it with a subtle but sporty style. He says the scooter can be ridden hard and corners can be taken fast, thanks to a more aggressive riding position.
"With the Hyper Modified TMAX I have tried to keep the bike very clear and recognisable as a TMAX, I didn't want to create a spaceship out of it."
"I concentrated on keeping the stock lines and optimising every detail while reducing the bike’s weight," said Walz.
The German tuner explains that he paid carefully attention to the handlebars and ended up moving the mirrors to get the look he wanted.
"I have also modified the handlebar area of the bike to give it a radical naked bike image and mounted the mirrors on the end of the bars to give it the impression of a café racer when in town."
The WalzWerk Yamaha T-Max scooter has a touch of sports bike to it as well, with a colour scheme that conjures up images of iconic YZF-R6 and R1 bikes.
But will the design have the visual appeal to outshine upcoming custom scooter designs by the legendary Roland Sands and Lazareth?
