Husqvarna's TR 650 Terra adventure bike will be priced at $8995 and goes on sale in mid-December while the TR 650 Strada road-oriented bike is asking $9695 and will be arriving here in January, the latter adding ABS as standard equipment.
Before the Husqvarna bikes arrive in showrooms, they will make their first local appearance in the southern hemisphere at the 2012 Australian Motorcycle Expo in Melbourne, from November 23 to 25.
Power for both models comes from a liquid-cooled 652cc single-cylinder BMW engine outputting 58hp (42kW) at 7250rpm and 60Nm of torque at 5750rpm, the same unit from the BMW G 650 GS.
Learner riders can also request a detuned LAMS version of both TR 650 models, outputting 48hp (35kW) and 54Nm.
A 300mm single front disc and 240mm rear disc brake, both with Brembo calipers, are standard on both bikes and for the most part the equipment is identical between the road and off-road version - 48mm upside down Sachs front forks and Sachs adjustable rear shock and both have the same 860mm seat heights.
The main difference is wheels and tyres. The Husqvarna TR 650 Terra is fitted with tougher spoked rims, 21-inch front, 18-inch rear, shod with dirt tyres, while the TR 650 Strada gets smaller cast aluminium rims sized 19 and 17-inches front and rear respectively, and fitted with road biased tyres.
Husqvarna will offer a slew of special parts and genuine accessories, available from Husqvarna dealers, allowing "Customers can tailor bikes to their needs" says the company, with everything from top cases to soft rear bags, hard panniers, hand guards, windshields, off-road foot pegs, aluminium bash plates, and more besides.
Husqvarna, a BMW-owned Swedish motorcycle company, says the sharp pricing "should see these eagerly anticipated models experience high demand given the high specification on offer".
