Husqvarna has released images and a video of a camouflaged Husqvarna Svartpilen 801 prototype ahead of its official release slated for later this month.
The moniker confirms the new retro-styled streetbike is set to be powered by KTM’s ‘790’ parallel-twin engine, not the more recent ‘901’ iteration. The 799cc LC8c engine which powered the 790 Duke and 790 Adventure models produced 103hp at 9250rpm and 87Nm of torque at 8000rpm, while Husqvarna has confirmed the new model will produce 105hp, suggesting the updates to achieve Euro5+ status have also been good for performance.
The only other information that has been confirmed is the weight at 181kg. Compare that the 790 Duke, which is slightly heavier at 189kg, although we don’t know if that figure is in ready-to-ride trim or with or without fluids.
We can see from the photos the bike is set to use WP’s Apex suspension package, the swingarm is KTM’s signature open-lattice style, while the brakes are Husqvarna-branded monobloc calipers gripping a twin-disc front end.
The fact that’s been shot on both a dirt-track and ice-racing course – complete with metal spikes in the bike’s tread – suggests Husqvarna sees it as a versatile bike, not just destined for sealed roads. Or as the firm puts it in the short statement released with the images, the “diverse program of sideways action and stunning ice rides on spiked tyres played a vital role in developing a truly versatile motorcycle that encourages you to escape the ordinary.”
The bike’s full specification and final colour schemes will be released on March 19.
