Husqvarna Norden 901 official reveal imminent

It has been a long wait, but it looks like the finished Husqvarna Norden 901 may finally see the light of day

The official reveal of the new Husqvarna Norden 901 adventure tourer is inching closer, with the Swedish brand releasing a video of the latest prototype in action.

Nearly two years after the first concept appeared at EICMA, Husqvarna is ramping up its marketing of the Norden 901. A series of recent videos gives us an insight into the development of the new machine, but the latest video shows the bike in action for the first time.

While Husqvarna is calling the bike in the video a prototype, it is arguably our best indication yet of what the finished product will look like. In the video, adventurer, Mike Horn, and former Dakar champion, Cyril Despres, pilot a pair of prototype Norden 901s through the jaw-dropping landscapes of Iceland.

Interestingly, the latest version of the Norden 901 appears to be largely unchanged from the original concept (visually, at least), but it does feature a new colour scheme which is similar to other Husqvarna models.

The Husqvarna Norden 901 will be the KTM-owned brand’s first true adventure tourer. KTM has been a leader in the adventure bike segment for at least a decade, but Husqvarna has been focused mainly on single-cylinder motocross and enduro bikes.

While the Norden 901 features a unique neo-retro look (courtesy of KISKA), it will almost certainly be heavily based on the current KTM 890 Adventure R, which is powered by a liquid-cooled 889cc parallel twin engine mounted in a chromoly steel trellis frame.

The 890 Adventure R puts out 105hp at 8000rpm and 100Nm at 6500rpm, and also features a full suite of electronics and premium WP suspension.

Judging by the latest video, the Norden looks like it will follow the 890 Adventure R’s lead as a dirt-friendly adventure tourer, but it’s unclear if there will be a more road-biased version like the standard KTM 890 Adventure (no R).

Further information on the new model is scarce, and there is no official release date yet, but Husqvarna promises on its website that the bike is ‘coming soon’.
