Husqvarna announces 2016 FS 450

Lighter and more powerful

Husqvarna Motorcycles, has announced the newly released 2016 model FS 450. The supermoto bike has been completely revamped and will be on dealer floors by the end of September.

Husqvarna says the FS 450 is a machine in the Swedish tradition and the distinctive and futuristic bodywork highlights a massive leap forward in performance.

The company’s research and development engineers have designed a new chromoly steel frame that they say improves handling and saves weight over the 2015 model.

At the same time, the new subframe is made of a composite material that is 30 per cent carbon fibre and features a three-piece construction, which is 1kg lighter than its equivalent in the previous model.

The 63hp single-overhead-cam 450cc engine is the most powerful Husqvarna 450cc supermoto engine yet developed, it's smaller, lighter and reconfigured for optimal mass-centralisation within the new frame.

The new engine is now 23mm shorter, 23mm narrower and 9mm lower. Every internal component has been revised and repositioned to reduce the weight by 1.8kg for an overall weight of 27.8kg.

The FS 450 has a lighter and more compact five-speed gearbox that is 8mm narrower and 350g lighter than the previous generation. The APTC (Adler Power Torque Clutch) slipper clutch prevents rear wheel instability and hopping when braking hard going into the apex of a turn. This allows for maximum control and perfect Supermoto-style drifting, were told.

The exhaust system is redesigned to improve weight distribution and reduce noise.

The FS 450 Supermoto is equipped with Brembo brakes, featuring a four-piston radially mounted caliper and pump combined with a 310mm front disk. A single piston caliper and a 220mm disc are fitted to the rear.

The new bike rides on lightweight 16.5”/17” Alpina spoke wheels with Bridgestone 125/80 R420 and 165/65 R420 slick tyres for maximum grip.

Husqvarna tells us that the new FS 450 Supermoto, which comes with new graphics, is set to deliver a thrilling, intuitive and confidence-inspiring riding experience.
