Husky 2T enduro flagship in town

Battle against KTM set to be a cracker

Husqvarna has added three new bikes to its enduro range for 2009, and the one that's creating the most fanfare is the two-stroke WR300.

While the all-new four-stroke TE310 will admirably fill a gap between its 250 and 450cc brethren, it's the WR300 which has the real X-factor as it prepares to go head-on against KTM's venerable 300EXC.

And if you've ever seen a professional rider trailriding on a big-bore two-stroke, you'll understand what the excitement is all about. Once the superb performance kicks in, it's a joy to watch.

The WR300 is a replica of the bike Frenchman Sebastien Guillaume rode to third place in last year's E3 class of the Enduro World Championship. It shares the same stroke as the WR250, which remains in the Husky enduro line-up, but has a 5.6mm bigger bore.

Other features include a 38mm Mikuni carburetor, Sachs shock, 50mm Marzocchi forks, wave discs and black anodised rims.

The WR300 retails for $11,995 (plus ORC), and the WR250 is $10,695. The 300EXC is $11,695 (plus ORC).

Locally, Victorian Jehi Willis will be riding the WR300 in the 2009 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship.
