Hurley stays out front in Oz

Daryl Hurley has maintained his lead in the Australian Pro Open motocross championship through the third and fourth rounds

However, the Motul Suzuki rider is facing a strong challenge from former champion Craig Anderson, riding for No Fear Honda. Anderson was second overall by a single point at round three and then won the following round.
Anderson's team-mate Cody Cooper is the best of the other Kiwis; he won a race at round three and stands fourth in the championship.

Round three

At Wonthaggi in New South Wales for round three, it was a Kiwi double as
Cooper and Hurley each claimed one race. Hurley took the overall win – by just one point from Anderson, who finished second in both heats – and extended his series lead.
It was all Honda in the first moto as Anderson and Cooper battled for the lead before the Kiwi got in front and eventually got away and won by nearly nine seconds. "The first moto went perfectly," Cooper said. "He was putting the pressure on me for a while but I managed to break away."
Hurley ran third by himself for much of the race while Kawasaki's Daniel
Reardon, who had qualified fastest, took fourth in spite of sustained pressure from Darryll King on the CDR Nokia Yamaha.
In race two Cooper did not get a great start -- and he also lost his goggles, which made passing a nightmare. Hurley and Anderson had a long struggle for the lead before Hurley made the decisive move on lap 12 and cleared away. "The first race didn't go to plan," Hurley admitted. "We had the wrong bike setup for the conditions, but we made some changes for race two and the RMZ450 was working brilliantly."
The King brothers fought out the final podium position, with Shayne getting his Kawasaki there in the end. Cooper came in fifth, so there were four Kiwis in the top five.

Round four

The fourth round at Conondale in Queensland was a great one for Honda's Anderson, as he won both heats and closed the gap to Hurley. Race one was a team one-two as Cooper finished second and set the fastest lap – in qualifying he had been 1.5 seconds faster than the next rider, but he did not get a good start to the race. Hurley recovered from a tumble to finish fourth behind Reardon.
Race two was a cracker, with Anderson and Hurley battling all the way.
Hurley got in front near the end but Anderson struck back straight away and carried on to win by three seconds. Cooper crashed and restarted well back in the field. "I should have had a better result overall today," Copper said. "My pace was fast and everything felt great in the first race, but Ando just had too big a gap on me. In the second moto, I was running third I think and then lost the front end on a corner. I got back up okay but couldn't get my rhythm back. I'm not happy that I couldn't make up a few more places before the end of it."
Darryll King finished fifth in both races, while Shayne King recorded an eighth and a fourth. All that left Hurley with a 16-point lead over
Anderson, with Reardon third ahead of three Kiwis: Cooper, Darryll King and Shayne King.

Pro Lites

In Pro Lites, Kawasaki's Mitch Hoad took the double at Wonthaggi – a rare
feat in this highly competitive class – and series leader Ryan Marmont
(KTM) achieved the same result at Conondale. He scored a second and a third on his KTM. Kiwi Michael Phillips (Kawasaki) scored top-10 finishes in three of the four races and stands eighth in the series.
