Hunter Lawrence has won his first AMA Supercross title, claiming the 2023 250SX East Coast Championship for Team HRC Honda at the penultimate event in Nashville.
The Australian rider won the main event in Nashville to secure the title with one round to spare. He is now 56 points ahead of his rival Haiden Deegan (Yamaha), while Max Anstie (Honda) is a further two points behind Deegan.
Lawrence has had a season to remember, winning seven of nine main event races aboard his Honda CRF250R. Now in his third year with the Honda HRC team, Lawrence’s career has previously been plagued with injury and bad luck.
Meanwhile, in the 250SX West Coast Championship, Lawrence’s younger brother and teammate Jett has a chance to wrap up his second AMA Supercross title at the next round in Denver, Colorado. The younger Lawrence brother already has the 2022 250SX East title to his name, as well as a pair of AMA Pro Motocross 250cc titles (2021, 2022).
The Lawrence brothers will square off against each other in the East/West showdown at the season finale in Salt Lake City. Jett previously edged out Hunter at the first East/West Showdown in New Jersey, with the pair finishing on the podium behind Max Anstie.
Jett Lawrence is expected to move up the 450 class for the upcoming Pro Motocross season, which will also act as the second half of the new AMA SuperMotocross (SMX) World Championship.
