This year's Hungarian MotoGP race, the first in the country since 1992, has been cancelled, with the promoter citing construction delays caused by financial woes.
The event was due to be held from September 18-20 at a racetrack in the town of Savoly. The track is being built by a Spanish firm at an estimated cost of $177m, with half of that amount being financed by the state-owned Hungarian Development Bank.
Motorcycle grand prix racing has gained popularity in Hungary since local racer Gabor Talmacsi won the 125cc world championship in 2007.
