How much for KTM's new and updated Dukes?

Retail price is in for the company's two new 1290 Super Duke-based machines, the GT and R Special Edition, as well as the 690 Duke and 690 Duke R

KTM Australia has announced pricing on its 1290 Super Duke GT and 1290 Super Duke Special Edition — and they can't be separated.

The pair will both retail for $26,995. The Special Edition goes on sale in March 2016, and the GT May 2016.

The GT (pictured) and Special Edition were both announced at the 2015 EICMA show in Milan. The GT has been detuned slightly for an output of 173hp compared to the standard version’s 177hp, but the same peak torque's range has been widened — so if anything it should feel as if it has more punch.

The fuel tank has been increased to 23 litres and the subframe has been modified to accept more weight and a pannier system.

Technology wise, there’s cruise control, hill start assist, heated grips and tyre pressure sensors.

The Special Edition is purely aesthetic with petal discs, Akrapovic exhaust, trick bar clamps and levers and, of course, the paint.

Before the 1290s lob, the updated 690 Duke and 690 Duke R will go on sale in February 2016 for $12,995 and $14,995 respectively. The duo was also displayed for the first time in Milan.

The 690 Duke R now pumps out almost 72hp (54kW) thanks to heavy engine mods required to meet Euro4 limits.

And what’s offered as options on the standard model comes fitted to the up-spec R model and, as well as the expected top-shelf WP and Brembo components, the differences are mostly software in the form of traction control, motor slip regulation and what KTM calls supermoto mode.
