Horex VR6 concept motorcycle

Reborn German motorcycle company takes the wraps off its brazen supercharged V6 model

Horex Motorcycles was established in 1923, then bought by Daimler-Benz in 1960 who proceeded to shut the motorcycle side of the company down. But tale doesn't end there, as the Horex name has just been revived. And in impressive style.

Exhibit A, your honour: The Horex VR6 concept.

Based in Germany, Horex Motorcycles hopes to have the concept turned into a reality sometime in 2011, and has reportedly already secured several million euros in investment funds.

This belt-driven beast is powered by a 1200cc supercharged V6 engine developing a very healthy 200hp (147kW) and roughly 150Nm, and features TOHC, or triple overhead camshafts.

The narrow-angle 15-degree V6 has two intake valves and one exhaust valve per cylinder and the forced induction system makes use of an intercooler to ensure the engine doesn't overheat with all that extra pressure.

Horex reckons its new TOHC supercharged 1200cc V6 engine has an ultra smooth power delivery, which is just as well considering that bad-boy could rival a Triumph Rocket III for outright tyre-frying torque.

As the photos show the motorcycle has an interesting design, with a single-sided swingarm, twiple-whammy exhaust pipes and number of tasty features, such as 50mm Marzocchi forks suspending the front hoop.

Radially mounted brakes should deliver good stopping power and is combined with ABS for extra safety. Electronic traction control doesn't appear on the list (at this conceptual stage) but sometimes the best form of traction control is the right-hand grip twist.

The Horex VR6 concept is likely to be a small volume vehicle if it does see the light of day in 2011 or 2012, and the German company is still mulling over production sites.

Expected to be priced at the premium end of the exotic motorcycle market, the plan is to roll out the new model in Europe first, followed by the US. No word on whether it will come to Asia or Australia.
