German motorcycle maker Horex has confirmed the start of production of its new 1200cc VR6 Roadster motorcycle, and is adhering to a strict form of 'one man, one bike' manufacture.
Available in two states of tune - naturally aspirated 1200cc V6 and a more powerful supercharged version - the triple overhead camshaft engine will be a unique selling point for the European motorcycle.
According to the German company, each bike will hand-assembled by an individual mechanic from start to finish, and "will be manufactured to the highest quality standards at the new Horex factory in Augsburg," says Horex.
The company explains that four sequential workstations - frame and chassis, engine, electrical system, then electronics - are used in the assembly approach, with a traditional 'one man, one bike' manufacturing principle.
A handful of minor changes have been made to the bike ahead of production, such as the delay of the supercharged model due to supply issues.
The Horex VR6 Roadster was originally going to be a belt-driven motorcycle, but the company has switched to a chain drive for reliability.
"From the very beginning, our goal has been to ensure as much as possible that Horex manufacturing operations meet the high quality standards set by the German automotive industry," says Horex CEO Clemens Neese.
"We consistently work to these standards and demand the same from our suppliers."
It's still not clear whether the bike will find a local importer in Australia, though determined customers will find a way via private importation. The price is expected to be around €20,000.
"In the beginning, we will produce only a few bikes a day," says Neese. "Once we are certain that these motorcycles meet our high standards and all operations are running smoothly, we will gradually increase our production quota."
The 1200cc V6 engine has a 17-degree head angle and outputs around 175hp (129kW) in naturally aspirated form and 200hp (147kW) and a very bullish 150Nm of torque in supercharged guise. The power is transferred to the rear wheel via a six-speed cog swapper and chain drive.
