Honda will not have a factory team in the 2024 Australian Superbike Championship, with the brand’s local arm announcing it is stepping back from the long-running series.
According to a press release, the decision “reflects Honda’s commitment to assessing and optimising its future motorsport engagement”.
As a result, Honda Australia will part ways with ER Motorsports with “the shared understanding of the dynamic nature of motorsports and the need for both parties to recalibrate their objectives”. The brand’s exit from ASBK racing comes after it won the championship with ER and Troy Herfoss in 2023.
"While the decision to step back from the Australian Superbike Championship in a factory capacity this year is a challenging one, it is essential for us to redirect our resources and energy towards initiatives that align more closely with the evolving needs of our customers,” said Honda General Manager, Tony Hinton.

Despite the decision to step back in factory capacity, Honda will continue to support select privateer efforts in the ASBK, and is dedicated to fostering talent and maintaining a positive presence in the racing community.
Honda also expressed its appreciation and gratitude to its fans, partners, and ER Motorsport. Hinton said that ER Motorsports has “represented the Honda brand with passion, seamlessly run the team with professionalism, and secured results”.
It is unclear what the next move for ER Motorsport is, but owner Dean Coote was grateful for his time with Honda and hopeful for the future.
“Winning multiple championships on the Honda is something I’m proud of and it is even better to part ways while we’re at the top of our game,” said Coote. “Thank you to Honda for the opportunity and we look forward to what is next.”
The 2024 Australian Superbike Championship kicks off at Phillip Island on February 23.
