Honda says it's drawn on its expertise in ATVs, SSVs, motorcycles and cars to develop its first sports SSV, which features a 999cc parallel-twin engine slotted into a one-piece frame.
The SSV rides on double-wishbone front suspension and a 4+ Link rear configuration equipped with Fox Podium QS3 shocks, delivering monster wheel travel of 449mm up front and 510mm at the rear.
Power is fed to the rear or all four wheels via a six-speed, dual-range Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with automatic and manual modes, the system also offering on-the-fly switches between 2WD and 4WD operation.
The Talon 1000R features the I-4WD road brake traction control system as seen on the Honda Pioneer 1000 LE, here adapted specifically for sport SSV use. The system automatically directs torque to the front wheel with the greater amount of grip for superior traction in tough off-road conditions.
The model also incorporates Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Hill Start Assist (HSA), along with what Honda describes as a "largest in-class driveshaft" for added strength and durability.
Honda says the Talon 1000R "specialises in high-speed driving associated with open terrain", with "suspension design and components set up for big air and hitting obstacles at velocity".
