Honda sold 12,559,000 motorcycles from April 1, 2011 until March 31, 2012 – over a million units up on the previous year’s mark.
Despite the great result, operating income for the whole fiscal year declined by 59.4 percent (to 231.3 billion yen) compared to the previous year, primarily due to the impact of decreased automobile production due to the Great East Japan Earthquake and the flooding in Thailand; increased R&D expenses; and the unfavourable currency effects due to the appreciation of the Japanese yen.
Over the next 12 months, Honda is forecasting motorcycle sales to hit 16. 6 million, and total operation income to nudge 620 billion yen – nearly a 300 percent rise on the current result.
