Honda's new ‘hydrostatic' drive ATV

The TRX500FPA is now on sale, offering a unique, continuously variable hydromechanical transmission, claimed to be quiet and maintenance-free

Honda’s 2012 model TRX500FPA has now been released, boasting a ‘Hondamatic’ continuously variable transmission and other features including a user-friendly TraxLok 2WD/4WD system, electric power steering and push button shifting.

Other touches include multi-function LCD instrumentation, large front and rear cargo racks, designed floor boards allowing better grip, a waterproof accessory socket and a triple headlight system for optimal light distribution.

The liquid-cooled, overhead-valve, single-cylinder, 499cc four-stroke engine is mounted longitudinally in the frame, allowing direct driveshaft alignment to front and rear wheels for what’s claimed to be improved drivetrain efficiency.
