According to a report in the Asahi Shimbun newspaper in Japan, Honda has committed to manufacturing the RC213V-S MotoGP prototype ridden onto stage at last year’s EICMA motorcycle show in Milan by none other than Marc Marquez.
At the time, Honda seemingly answered the question that a lot of people have been asking: a road-going version of the awesome RC213V MotoGP weapon.
The RC213V-S, the biggest news in MotoGP replica land since Ducati released the Desmosedici RR based on Casey Stoner’s 2007 world championship-winning machine, is now set to drop the prototype tag and will go on sale with a price tag of 20 million yen (about $A210,00).
That, according to the newspaper – and we don't beg to differ – will make it the most expensive motorcycle made in Japan and commercially available from Honda. The report went onto say that it will be available in "Japan and overseas markets this year", with production scheduled to take place at the Honda plant in Ozu, Kumamoto Prefecture.
Bikesales contacted Honda Australia for comment about the RX213V-S, with the company's marketing chef Glyn Griffiths suggesting that the source (ie newspaper article) "may not be correct" and that he didn't have any information on units being available in Australia at this stage.
