Honda Racing has announced it will be making an assault on the 2014 Endurance World Championship with a fresh three-rider team, the new outfit taking the reins from the Honda TT Legends equip.
The new team will comprise three Frenchmen – Julien Da Costa (pictured, left), Freddy Foray (right), and Sebastien Gimbert (centre) – and will contest all five rounds of the title, campaigning Honda’s 2014 CBR100RR SP
. It’s a formidable cast of talent. Thirty-two-year-old Da Costa – the reigning champion – has three EWC titles to his name, in addition to securing the French Superbike Championship in 2012. Foray, 29, was the world endurance champion in 2010 and 2011, while Gimbert, 36, seized the EWC crown in 2004.
The new team represents a new direction for Honda in world endurance events, and takes over from the three-year Honda TT Legends project.
According to Honda Motor Europe’s Head of Motorsport, Robert Watherston, the new blood will take the manufacturer’s EWC tilt to the next level.
“Over the last three years we have developed a solid foundation and secured consistent results – it’s now time to up our game and sharpen our attack on the 2014 title,” he said.
“The level of competition in EWC is incredibly high and the new direction for the team ensures that we have all the right elements in place to increase our chances of success in the championship. With three proven endurance specialists in the line-up I’m confident that Honda can once again see its name on the Endurance World Championship trophy,” he added.
