Global motorcycle sales data for the third quarter of 2012 shows that Honda recorded growth of 1.8 per cent, with 3.9 million bikes sold. Sales were down in Europe, Japan and Brazil but up in Asia and North America, the latter recording impressive growth of 13.2 per cent.
In North America some 60,000 Hondas were sold, up from 53,000 for the corresponding 2011 quarter, with Honda attributing the rise to the release of new value-packed models like the CRF250L (pictured) traillie, the NC700X and the Metropolitan scooter.
Honda said that sales were up in Asia thanks to models like Click125i and PCX150 in Thailand and the Dream Yuga, Activa and CB Shine.
Honda’s motorcycle sales for the quarter reportedly generated US$3.89b in revenue for Honda, down from the US$4.49b reported in the same quarter last year, but Honda reported a profit of US$1.03b over its second quarter, up compared to the US$758.6m it recorded in the same quarter in 2011.
