Honda’s global motorcycle sales figures for 2010 reveal that Asia and Oceania (well, Asia and a sprinkle from Oceania) stole the show -- accounting for just over 80 percent of total bikes sold by the world’s biggest manufacturer.
In raw numbers, 14,378,000 bikes were sold in Asia and Oceania, compared to 196,000 in Japan, 192,000 in North America, 1,640,000 in South America, 1,285,000 in China, and 258,000 in Europe, the Middle and Near East and Africa.
That’s a grand total of 17,952,000, compared to 15,047,000 in 2009. Obviously, the figures show that Honda is tracking well on a global level, with the continued decline in markets like North America (down eight percent), where large-displacement bikes are the dominant players, are more than being offset by gains in Asia, where small-displacement bikes rule.
And as those countries continue to gain more even economic prosperity, we can’t see that trend reversing in the near future.
Locally, Honda finished 2010 as Australia’s No. 1 motorcycle brand.
