According to a report in rideapart.com, Honda is developing fuel cell technology for both cars and motorcycles alongside partners and Toyota and Nissan.
Under Japan’s “Strategic Road Map for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells” umbrella industry body, which also includes venture capital and energy companies, the plan is to put 40,000 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on the road and increase the number of hydrogen fueling stations many fold by 2020.
We haven’t seen a Honda fuel cell two-wheeler yet, but the patent application drawings point to a bike with a conventional chassis and the hydrogen fuel cell housed under the seat.
The fuel cell system mixes hydrogen with oxygen to create electricity for the motor. The only byproduct is water, and the recharging times is less compared to batteries.
Maybe we’ll see the fruits of Honda’s labour at the 2018 Tokyo Motor Show?
