Here's a retro cafe racer that stands out from the crowd, and it's not American or Italian. This fine looking specimen was designed by Phil Little of PhilLittleRacing and is based on a customised Honda CB450 and is available in kit-form.
Say hello to the Honda CR450 Clubman Cafe.
The Honda CB450 was a venerable model, built between 1965 and 1974, and low kilometre used bikes in good nick will still fetch around $8000 in Australia. Rusted out, high mileage models can often be found for a lot less...
This kit can be fitted to the CB or CL450, changing it from a 70s roadster into a retro cafe racer. The CR450 body work can be easily assembled as it is essentially a bolt-on kit, with the only fabrication required being a mount for rear fender.
The rest of the CR450 kit, which comprises fairing, tank, tail, taillight, shocks, café bars, bar end mirrors and a two-into-one exhaust, can be sourced from Omar's Dirt Track Racing.
Phil Little said he chose the CB 450 because parts are plentiful and that even CB or CL 350s and 360s need very little work. "I chose a CB 450 because as a mid-sized Japanese bike it is an ideal candidate for a custom project. Host bikes and parts are plentiful and cheap.
"A 450's period performance and handling are locked in time but who cares... A bike like this is just rolling art anyway," opined Little.
