Honda adds motorcycles to massive airbag recall
It's already affected the car side of the business, and now around 2700 Gold Wings will be recalled because of the faulty Takata airbagsHonda has added approximately 2700 motorcycles to the millions of vehicles it is recalling to replace potentially dangerous Takata airbags.
Honda first released the airbag as an option the 2006 Gold Wing, and those built through to 2010 used the type of non-desiccated inflator module that has been found to be the cause of several airbag ruptures in automobile accidents.
According to Honda, there have been no reported ruptures involving the motorcycles. Owners of the affected 2006-2010 models will be notified shortly, including those in Australia.
The Honda cars that are the subject of the Takata recall may be fitted with airbags that "deploy abnormally" and shower the seat occupant with shrapnel.
According to Honda Australia, mechanics have been reinstating airbags in cars at the rate of around 5000 a week, but this latest recall will be delayed by parts availability.
