Yamaha’s Daniel Milner has maintained his handy 27pt lead over KTM’s Chris Hollis in the 2013 Yamaha Australia Off-Road Championship after the duo shared spoils at Wedderburn (Vic) on August 18-19.
In Saturday’s cross-country event -- six laps of a single loop track – Hollis prevailed from Milner, and the tables were the turned in Sunday’s sprint-based program when Milner got the job done ahead of his arch-rival, with Stefan Merriman (Yamaha) making it consecutive third paces.
“It would have been nice to win both rounds on the weekend but Chris was riding well on Saturday and I wasn’t able to bridge the gap late in the event,” Milner said. “But it did give me some motivation on day two and I was able to get into a good pace right at the start and make it stick all the way to the finish.”
Hollis said: “We still have two rounds to go and while my lead looks good on paper sometimes it doesn’t take much for all that to change. Our final rounds are in Dungog in a few weeks’ time so I will continue with my usual routine and ride each round on its merits just like I have all year.”
Milner has now moved onto 218pts, ahead of Hollis (191), Husqvarna’s Glenn Kearney (166), Merriman (153) and Yamaha’s Josh Green (149).
Rounds 11 and 12 will be held in Dungog (NSW) on September 7-8.
