Chris Holder has wasted no time stamping his authority on the domestic speedway season, winning round one of the 2012 Australian championship in North Brisbane on Saturday, January 7.
The three-time winner and defending champion was at brilliant best through the heats, top-scoring with 14pts before holding off the advances of Davey Watt, Rohan Tungate and Sam Masters to win the A Final.
The night was not without controversy, with Queenslander Troy Batchelor attempting an ambitious passing move on Kozza Smith in heat two that ended in disaster, with the latter being taken to hospital with a broken femur.
The B Final was a hotly contested affair, with Masters showing the Queensland crowd why he was crowned British Premier League Rider champion, taking honours ahead of Justin Sedgmen, Cameron Woodward and Taylor Poole.
Round two and three of the championship will be held in Kurri Kurri (NSW) on January 14 and Gillman (SA) on January 21.
