Holder out of Speedway World Cup
The Aussie world champion has suffered multiple fractures in a domestic league clash in Coventry, which will put him out of action for an extended periodWorld speedway champion Chris Holder is out of the 20134 Speedway World Cup and faces a lengthy break from racing after suffering a fractured left hip, left shoulder and right heel riding for his UK league team Poole in Coventry on July 5.
Holder was unsettled by Coventry’s Grzegorz Zengota and clipped Aussie teammate Darcy Ward’s back wheel on lap two, straightening up and ploughing into their air fence.
He has now had a couple of bouts or surgery and will sit out the 2013 Speedway World Cup, where he was due to skipper Australia into Event 1 against Poland, Russia and Latvia on July 13. It is unclear how long he will be out of action. Queenslander Troy Batchelor is the new captain.
Poole team manager Neil Middleditch said: “This is a massive blow for Chris Holder. It’s a great shame after a tremendous meeting. For it to end on such a sour note is heartbreaking. It was just an unfortunate speedway accident.”
