Holder enters the record books

Big finish in Mildura

Aussie Speedway sensation Chris Holder has rounded off a memorable racing tour down under by clinching his fourth successive Australian Under 21 Speedway Championship in Mildura.

Just two weeks after being crowned the Australian Solo Speedway Champion, Holder wrote his name into the record books by becoming the only rider alongside Leigh Adams to win the title four times.

Holder took control of the event in the first heat of the night, when he came from the widest starting gate to take maximum points from his most fancied rival at the meet, Troy Batchelor.

From that point on it was a clinical display of racing from the New South Welshman, and despite dropping a point in his final heat of the night, the result never really appeared in doubt.

Holder had the pick of the starting gates in the final, where he rode alongside Victorian Tyron Proctor, South Australian Robert Ksiezak and Batchelor - who had beaten Aaron Summers in a ride-off for the fourth spot.

An electrifying start saw Holder and Batchelor vie neck-and-neck for the lead, which Holder managed to take, and with Batchelor crashing out a lap later, the three-rider re-race was practically a non-event.

Proctor finished the rerun in second position with Ksiezak claiming third and Batchelor having to settle with fourth place overall.

But the night belonged to the next big thing in Australian Speedway - Holder, who could not hide his emotion when explaining just what the win meant to him.

"I don't know what to say.  I don't think I could stand it if someone else had won it.  I am so happy, it was my last go at it and to win it I am just over the moon.

"I haven't lost a meeting since I've been back!  There've been five Aussie Title rounds and an Australian Under 21 Champs and two State Titles, so it's awesome!

"Now I'll get back into the World Under 21 rounds which is another reason I came here - if I couldn't win, just to get top-three would have been okay.  But I have won it and got the spot, so I'm absolutely stoked!"
