The June 1 Moto3 race at Mugello was a cliff-hanger, so much so that it produced the closest ever top three finish in 66 years of grand prix racingLast Sunday’s Moto3 race at Mugello (June 1) produced the closest ever top three finish in the entire 66-year history of grand prix racing.
With race winner Romano Fenati crossing the line just 0.01 seconds ahead of fellow KTM rider Isaac Viñales and Honda’s Alex Rins, the three riders made history with the tightest podium finish of all time.
Viñales and Rins were classified as having crossed the line at exactly the same time, both within a 0.01 seconds of Fenati, with Viñales taking second place on the rostrum courtesy of a faster best lap in the race.
Below is a definitive list of the 10 closest ever top three finishes in the history of grand prix racing, with Mugello having produced six of those:
