High-tech Stark Varg electric dirt bike is headed for Australia in 2022

The Barcelona-based company calls its new electric model the fastest motocross bike in the world

A new electric dirt bike is headed for Australia, with the Stark Varg being hailed as the fastest motocross bike in the world.

Stark Future is a Swedish-born company that is now based in Barcelona. It was founded by Anton Wass and Paul Soucy, while former world champion Sebastian Tortelli and former AMA star Josh Hill have both been involved in the development of the new bike.

The all-new Stark Varg is said to produce 80hp and 938Nm of wheel torque while weighing in at just 110kg fully charged (apparently a battery is heavier at full capacity).

Importantly, the Varg has a battery range of up to 6 hours and Stark promises that the bike will be able to ‘easily’ complete a full moto at ‘MXGP intensity’. The claimed charging time is 1-2 hours.

Other key features include KYB suspension with 310mm travel front and rear, a lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre chassis, easy-to-remove bodywork, Galfer and Brembo braking components and Pirelli Scorpion MX32 tyres.

Of course, the electric nature of the bike comes with its own benefits. As well as instant and linear torque, less motor inertia, and lack of noise, the Varg also features over 100 ride modes that can be accessed and customised via a unique removable display that doubles as a fully-functioning smartphone.

The Start Varg Phone is an Android device which, when paired with the Stark Varg App, allows you to build more than 100 ride modes by adjusting power curve, engine braking, virtual flywheel effect and traction control. The rider can have up to five modes readily available on the bike at any one time.

Uniquely, the Stark Varg Phone has a SIM card that means riders can use it as their personal smartphone. It has the capability to display navigation and also records lap times, map data, speed, G-force, airtime and power consumption. This data can also be easily transferred to any other smartphone. These functions are available by purchasing a premium Stark subscription plan.

Incredibly, Stark Future is already taking orders for the Varg on its website, with first deliveries expected in late 2022.

The bike is available to order for Australian customers too, and it features a price tag of $16,900, with $100 up front to make a reservation. The website lists the Australian arrival as October 2022.

Stark is also offering a number of options and upgrades including the choice of a 18- or 19-inch wheel, a 60hp or 80hp motor, customised suspension settings, a hand rear brake (in place of a clutch lever) and a side stand. There are also three colours available – Stark Red, Forest Grey, and Snow White.

Notably, Stark Future is not the first start-up company to try its hand at electric dirt bikes. Alta was a American company that had very solid product, but was sadly a little ahead of its time. Perhaps Stark Future has entered the market at just the right time.
