High-tech 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke R EVO revealed

The 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke R is on its way to Australia with new colourways, while a new EVO variant that adds even more fruit.

After a major overhaul in 2020, the Austrian marque’s flagship street motorcycle has received only minor refinements for 2022, but the new 2022 KTM 1290 Super Duke R EVO variant adds 2nd generation WP Apex semi-active suspension.

The WP Apex semi-active setup allows for on-the-fly adjustment via three damping modes that are dubbed ‘Comfort’, ‘Street’, and ‘Sport’.

Additionally, the spring preload on the rear suspension can be set via the TFT menu by up to 20mm in 10 steps, depending on the requirements of the rider.

There is also an optional Suspension Pro package that adds another three damping settings (Track, Advanced and Auto), as well as three automatic preload auto-levelling settings (Low, Standard, High). Another feature of Suspension Pro is an anti-dive setting that keeps the front-end high under hard braking. That setting can also be switched off.

Elsewhere, the 2022 model gets a boost in throttle response thanks to a quick-turn throttle twist grip, while the standard electronic suite returns from the previous model and is complimented by the optional Track and Performance ride modes.

Both machines will come in two new colourways, including the familiar blue and orange design and a new silver and orange colour scheme.

While pricing is yet to be announced, the new KTM 1290 Super Duke R pair is set to arrive in Australian and New Zealand dealerships from February 2022.

The EVO variant will be available in extremely limited numbers.
