Hide SP-20 custom Harley-Davidson
Take a 2003 H-D XL 1200S, slam it, switch over a few parts and give a fresh lick of paint and with years of practice, you might end up with this creationCustom Harley-Davidsons are nothing new, but when they're fettled by Japanese tuning house Hide Motorcycles (Hidemo) you know you're in for something special.
The last Hidemo custom we profiled was a feisty-looking 2002 Harley-Davidson Sportster, and now the Asian tuning house has presented another engaging custom based on an early 2000s Harley-Davidson, in this case a 2003 XL 1200S.
Named the Hide SP-20, the bike sports a relatively subtle aesthetic - the lack of chrome and washed out colours gives it a somewhat utilitarian look that, along with dropped suspension, works in its favour.
Compared to its Harley-Davidson donor bike, the Hide SP-20's front fender has been removed and a new seat section and compact tank have been added, while spoked wheels give the bike a classic appeal. It rides on a 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheel.
According to reports, Hidemo's goal was to create a vintage racer image, and it seems to have achieved this.
The Harley-Davidson V-twin engine has been left relatively stock, though the addition of a Hide air intake and a tastefully executed custom exhaust system will be sure to improve safety by letting other motorists know of the bike's presence.
